PLANT DIVERSITY COURSE OUTLINE
1st Week Registration
2nd Week Variety of forms in non-vascular plants:
Introduction.
Why we study plants; classification of plant
Kingdom.

3rd Week The Thallophyta –Introduction (general xteristics,
types of thallus form) – Unicellular, Colonial,
Filamentous and more Complex algae, Economic
importance and Reproduction.
4th Week Fungi – Unicellular (yeast), filamentous,(Rhizopus
Stolonifer), more complex form, importance to
Terrestrial ecosystem, reproduction: vegetative and
sexual.
5th Week The Bryophyta - Liverworts: Thalloid liverworts:
Marchantia, leafy liverwort: Porella, Mosses:
Bryum coronatum.
6th Week The Bryophyta(contd).
7th Week Variety of forms in vascular plants:
Introduction, Psilotum, advance in vascular and
reproductive system in Lycopodium and Selcginella.
8th Week The ferns, the seed plants, adaptations of forms to
different ecological requirements.
9th Week Morphology of flowering plants:-
The subject of plant morphology.
10th Week Parts of flowering plant; Morphology of
Angiosperm; root & stem.
11th Week Leaves and flower arrangement; fruit morphology.
12th Week Fruit morphology
